Karayiplerden gelen Chalk Bass, bu aile içindeki daha küçük baslardan biridir ve yeni başlayanlar için harika bir balıktır. Gövde mor renkli orta bölümlü turuncu renktedir. Çekiciliğini artıran elektrik mavisi dikey bantlar bu balıkları vurgular.
Saklanmak için bol miktarda canlı kayaya sahip 30 galonluk bir akvaryum, Chalk bass için idealdir. Diğer balıklara karşı agresif değildirler ve aynı anda olduğu sürece akvaryuma birden fazla örnek eklenebilir. Mercanları veya sapsız omurgasızları seçmezler ve resif akvaryumu için harika bir balıktırlar. Daha büyük örnekler, özellikle Periclimenes cinsindeki küçük karideslere saldırabilir.
Son derece dayanıklı bir balık olan Chalk Bass, çeşitli kıyılmış etli ürünler, vitamin bakımından zengin tuzlu su ve mysis karides ve pul yiyeceklerden oluşan bir diyet gerektirir.
